We need your help to get the Burma Act passed
We are still actively promoting the Burma Act and working to get Congress to pass it.
If you are interested in helping us but aren’t sure how to go about it, Mike Haack from the Campaign for a New Myanmar, a member of the U.S. Advocacy Coalition for Myanmar, holds training sessions twice a week on Zoom. Anyone can join and you can use the skills you develop can be applied to lobbying anyone in government.

There has been a lot of talk of late about the Burma Act of 2021. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) has been a long-time supporter of Burma and Aung San Suu Kyi but has not signed onto the bill. He responded by writing that he supports an amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act. That may make it look like he is doing something to help the people of Myanmar but that amendment does almost nothing.
The Burma Act may not be perfect but it does place sanctions on the Myanmar oil and gas industries, which supply the Burmese military with a lot of money that it needs to keep control of the country. Since the coup on February 1, 2021, the junta has killed more than 1,300 people. The amendment, toured by McConnell and others on the Republican side, does nothing but require the State Department to report back to Congress on what is happening in Myanmar. The people of that nation deserve better.
